Gab is Not Responsible for Tree of Life Shooting

About 10,000,000 tweets vs 48,000 gabs.  That’s the difference between “hate speech” content on Twitter vs Gab.  Yet Gab is under heavy attack, by the media, because the crazed Tree of Life shooter used Gab.  He also used Facebook and Twitter, yet Gab is the only one that has had all it’s support pulled.  I got these figures by from the tweet found underneath, and then by finding out how many users were on each platform; 3% for Twitter, 6% for Gab.

In short, Gab doesn’t censor anyone.  However there was recently an attack that they we’re letting people post child pornography, but Andrew Torba (The CEO) was posting that they certainly do boot them immediately.  I would post a screenshot of him stating this, but Gab is down as of writing this.  But they can’t say the site goes without moderating.

Screenshot 2018-10-29 at 4.10.57 PM-01

As you can see, they are not sitting idly by while being attacked.  They have taken to their competitor, Twitter, so they can keep their base connected to whats going on.  Which is kind of ironic that Twitter hasn’t banned them, Twitter is very heavy handed with bans.

What can we take away from this situation?  Free speech is not easy, it does come with “hate” speech.  But you don’t combat this by shutting them down, you have to have a better argument than them.  If Gab is this big bad awful place, it will sink eventually, so why try so hard to go after their payment processor and their website host?  Perhaps Gab struck a cord with it’s free speech that others need shut down?  How big of a threat are they?  Gab has been growing quite a bit lately, and are even seeing attacks in different form, as I mentioned the child pornography situation earlier.  I don’t know much about it, but I’ll share the little I did read while it was happening.  There was an organization accusing them of allowing child pornography on their site, which Gab found was not the case.  Then all of a sudden, a bunch of new users were made and was posting the garbage on Gab.  That’s when Torba said it wasn’t welcome and the accounts were removed immediately.  Considering how closely they were working with law enforcement to provide information about the Tree of Life shooter, I’d imagine they forwarded that info to them, too.  (If anyone from Gab is reading this, and this is inaccurate in anyway, please comment so I know)

To those that hate Gab – Stop attacking them if they aren’t a threat.  Let them and their community grow or die on their own, and stop fanning the flames because they will rise out of the ashes, and it’s going to be a bigger fight.

The NPC Meme Is for Free Thinkers

I LOVE this!  No meme has hit me quite like this NPC (Or Non Playable Character) meme.  In my real life store, I constantly have people talking about the same things.  Let’s take the weather for example, about half of my total interactions consists of, “it’s nice out” or “it’s terrible out”.  The hoards of people that do this is astounding.  There are a lot of people that just aren’t as clever as they think they are.

What is the NPC meme?  Basically it is used to show how there are so many people out there who don’t seem to have original thoughts, so they just spout whatever they see others, or the media, say or do.  Like a programmable robot.  The term NPC comes from video games, they can range from; generic characters that give small bits of lore or information, task givers that will reward the player after a completed goal, or even as an obstacle that blocks the players way.  If the game has multiple characters you can play/recruit, the NPC’s can be distinguished from their often dull, repetitive or ordinary looks and can only repeat a few lines of dialogue, unless there is a special event or cut-scene.

Now that I have seen the NPC meme, and I understand it.  I can’t help but think of a lot of people like that, especially the ones that show the exact same behavior as others.  let’s not forget to mention people online screaming “bot” or “Nazi” every time you make an argument they don’t like.  The political left and Social Justice Warriors have claimed this to be an attack on them, but really it’s an attack on anyone who isn’t a free thinker.  That goes both ways people!

This really hits on what Kanye West has been tackling for the passed year, free thinking.  People who are mad at him for saying “You don’t have to vote Democrat if you are black”, are NPC’s.  Just because Kanye likes Trump doesn’t mean you have to, and Kanye can like whoever the hell he wants.  There is no reason to blindly follow others and let them act as your brain.  Be a thinker, not an NPC!

Tech Companies Know Better Than You

Twitter, the final holdout of the big tech companies, has finally banned Alex Jones and Infowars.  But that isn’t what we are going to talk about today.  I want to discuss what they are really doing when they ban people like Alex Jones from their platforms – They know better than you.  It is truly silly to ban people from, especially, Twitter, because they have mute and block buttons already, why does the company have to go that extra mile and erase people?  It makes no sense when you think of the “publisher” or “platform” problem they may soon face.  if they are publishers, they are responsible for everything content creators make and push on their sites.  So if someone tried to sue Twitter for something Alex Jones does, than Twitter would have to take responsibility and cover him under their legal umbrella.  So, as a publisher, it would make sense if they ban Infowars.  But as a platform, which is what Facebook, YouTube and Twitter claim to be, they are not there to police people and anything they do they are not responsible for.  Which is the way it should be, but does that give them the right to ban Infowars?  Absolutely, but it’s a mistake, they will lose the trust of people if they police content they disagree with, instead of letting us use the tools they give us, to either elevate them or block them.  They do this, because they know better than you.  Free speech needs to stay alive, and the big tech companies need to stay neutral, or our internet as we know it, is gone.

Infowars may be banned from the large services, but you can still find them.  They have a bitchute channel, or just go to infowars.com

Conservative Social Media, Gab

A lot of criticism is being thrown at Twitter, Facebook and Google due to their recent supression of conservative voices. This is where Gab comes in, a place where “The storytellers will not be silenced”. They started in 2016, and recently hit the 600,000 user milestone, reaching for 700,000 soon. Google and Apple have already put their foots down on Gab, and will not allow their mobile app into their respective app stores. Per the nypost.com, Google has cited hate speech for their reason for not listing the app.

The largest criticism of Gab is that it is a place where Nazi’s and white supremacists gather and spread hate speech. But if you are a free thinker, you’ll notice these people don’t have anywhere else to go.  If they are pushed off one platform, they will go to another, or underground, and then their thoughts will fester and that’s how you get criminals.  Banning them isn’t the way to get rid of them, it’s the exchange of ideas and to convince them they’re ideas are terrible.  I’ve been on there for a couple weeks, and I have noticed a few people that think white people should reign supreme, but for the most part, its a bunch of people who want someone to talk about the things Trump is doing, and fighting back against anti-white Twitter.  I don’t care what the color of your skin is, it’s the content of your character that I care about.  I say anti-white because there are a lot of people, like @VerifiedHate, that screenshots “blue checks” from twitter that spew anti-white rhetoric.  Which for those keeping racists tabs, is a form of racism.  Even so, if you have any issues with anyone on there, you have full control to mute people to tailor your experience.  For the record, Twitter also has this feature, but with their “Quality Filter” most people don’t even get seen anymore.

Speaking of the Quality Filter, it was originally something you had to turn on, but at some point they thought it was SO GREAT that they decided to turn it on for everyone.  After turning mine off, I started seeing people again… WEIRD!  The screen shot below was taken from their blog.

Gab is absolutely dedicated to the idea of free speech, which is what I love about it. The problem for Gab seems to be the lack of influential people, such as celebrities, politicians or large companies such as Amazon or McDonald’s. It’s more of a place to mingle with everyday Joe’s like you and me, and again, if you find some disgusting person you cannot stand, mute them and poof, they are gone. There are a bunch of accounts like @RealTrumpTweets that mirrors the tweets of whoever that account is about.  So every time Trump tweets something, the @RealTrumpTweets account “Gabs” it.  Its unfortunate that the comments and criticism never reach the actual person though. Which could be a good thing, going to Trump’s comment section in Twitter is the most irritating thing you can do on there.

The last thing I want to point out about Gab is their frog logo. Is it me, or did they chose a frog on purpose because of Pepe the frog?  The accusation of them both being a thing for white supremacy seems a little too coincidental.  Pepe is not a symbol of white supremacy!

Infowars Missing From Top Google Play?

What will happen when Infowars is banned from everything?

infowars

Huh, I guess I was right when I said banned things get more popular. Anyway, that isn’t the update to the Infowars purge. The newest update is that Google has now suppressed their app from appearing in the Top app. I didn’t realize Google didn’t know how to count…

infowars 3

Notice that the 3 is missing. Now if you search for the Infowars app, you can find it, and states it is number 2 in the News and Magazine category. Which may be confusing, but it was number 3 in ALL apps, and number 2 in News and Magazine.

infowars 2

As of getting ready to write this, Infowars appears to have been suppressed to the number 12 spot.

infowars 12

There you have it, Google Play is actively sabotaging apps due to their “views”. It is pretty damning to show how much they want to silent Infowars and Alex Jones. Media companies give Infowars a lot of credit for helping Trump get elected in 2016 (which they aren’t happy about), and it is quite a sight to see them suddenly ban him from nearly every platform right before an election. I don’t understand why they don’t see that banning a conspiracy theorist like this is not going to go well for them. Doesn’t school teach about the prohibition anymore?

UPDATE

I didn’t notice at first, but the number 10 app is missing as well.  Got me thinking that maybe this isn’t an Infowars thing.  It still could be, but then begs the question of what else isn’t showing, and why?

Another Loss for Free Speech

In my last post, I forgot about a very important free speech battle, and it isn’t going well. Count Dankula, the Nazi Pug guy.

Markus Meechan posted a video about turning his girlfriend’s “adorable” dog into a Nazi.  He prefaced the video by stating he wanted to turn the adorable dog into the worse thing he can think of, then got the pug riled up by asking him if he wants to “gas the Jews”.  And here it is…

He was in and out of court for nearly two years, and in April 2018, he was found guilty and was fined £800.  He didn’t care about paying the £800, but its a matter of principle, so he isn’t paying it.  He started a gofundme for the appeal, stating he needed about £100,000 for the best lawyers he could find.  However, he raised nearly £200,000 which he states he will not use for personal use.  If that wasn’t dumb enough for you, his second appeal attempt had failed.  Which means he has no more appeal attempts, and he is “forced” to pay the fine this coming October.

But he won’t, he is actually planning on go to jail for this, and as he says, “I won’t bend the f***ing knee”.  This truly is a terrible thing to happen, and I have a lot of sympathy for him.  Like his joke or not, it’s pretty obvious it was a joke and a bash against Nazis.  I thought it was pretty hilarious.

This is one of many reasons why free speech is so important, so we aren’t jailing people for making jokes.  Here is his latest recap on the whole thing, I gave you the short version.

Alex Jones, the Latest Saga in the Speech Wars

Alex Jones, if you don’t know who he is… Well he is pretty nutty. He runs the website www.infowars.com, It’s a “news” website that often is just wildy wrong (sometimes he actually just shares news). I have seen quite a bit of his work, but its no surprise he gets labeled a conspiracy theorist. I’m sorry, if you can watch his talks about the frogs being gay and the President having weather weapons and believe it, you may have more problems than him.

I’m sure we can take Wikipedia’s take on Alex Jones as truth…

jones

Ah, the alt-right label again. I have to stick up for anyone labeled “alt-right” or “far-right” because its a label that the media has adopted to discredit anyone. We will have to have a nice long talk about the alt-right. Well, lets get into the details.

August 5th, Apple removes Infowars from the podcast app for hate speech.

August 6th, Facebook removes Alex Jones pages for glorifying violence and using dehumanising language to describe trangender and, Muslims and immigrants.

August 6th, YouTube deletes the Infowars channel.

infowars

Why is this important? Because if they start to silence people, based on what they call “hate speech”, we are losing the battle for free speech. Hate speech to me, will not be hate speech to the next person, and even so, anyone should be able to say whatever they want to me. If I don’t like someones “hate speech”, I would just take my respect and values somewhere else.

How is this political left and right speech war going to go next. First the left took a swing and a hit against Roseanne for a “racist joke”. Then the right rebounds and strikes down James Gunn for “pedophilia jokes”. Then the left puts “white racist”, Sarah Jeong into the speech battlefield at the New York Times. Latest is the take down of Alex Jones, a giant conspiracy theorist with tons of followers, turning him into a martyr for “hate speech”.

We need to stop firing people for speech, especially jokes. Let the bad ideas come out, so we can chose for ourselves if we want to buy or ignore that product. Alex Jones is just another product to be pulled off the shelf and now we have no choice.

I want to finish this with a couple observations. First, all the big tech companies banned a conspiracy theorist, for different reasons, within a couple days. Second, banning things typically makes them more popular… Just saying.
