The latest season of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit started off with a two hour special. The first half is about how a father is raping his son, and prosecuting him without the child’s testimony, and the father goes free. The second half is about how the raped son’s anger is getting out of control and he shoots up his school. There is always drama with the unit themselves, and in these episodes Amanda is pregnant and contemplating abortion, and Olivia is battling getting old and how it is affecting her work.
There are two scenes I want to point out. The first is after the son was interviewed by a psychiatrist, the quote I find virtue signaling goes like, “This is not rocket science, he grew up in a household with a very traditional view of masculinity, taken to the extreme. Like a… type of toxicity”. The problem I have with this, is there is a big push from social justice warriors to add a taboo to masculinity. I can’t help but see a correlation between this generations lack of masculinity and the high depression/suicide rates among men. Here is a little propaganda about the issue.
Who exactly is pressuring these children to act “hyper-masculine”? Culture? Our culture is teaching our boys to become woman. Boys need to be medicated for school at a much higher rate than girls. Girls are more adept at the way our schools are organized than boys, so our boys get drugged up and are told their natural feelings of masculinity is wrong and needs to be suppressed. Dr. Jordan Peterson tackles it a little in this clip, and his take on this hits the problem right on the head.
The second scene has Amanda and Olivia debating the second amendment and abortion. Olivia says only one of them kills, referring the the second amendment, and Amanda replies with “In Georgia, they both kill”. I’m not shy about believing abortion is killing babies. The most persuading thing I heard came from Ben Shapiro, he and a student were talking about how a person in a coma has the potential to become sentient again, and leaving a fetus to it’s own devices has the potential to become sentient, but we would kill the fetus and not the person in the coma. I found this interesting because the person in the coma has a life he/she can be judged on, and even if they were a terrible human, we wouldn’t kill them. The fetus hasn’t even gotten that chance yet. Anyway, Olivia shows her true colors that she is anti second amendment and sort of pro abortion. At the end of their conversation, Olivia starts lecturing Amanda about the regret of having an abortion, and Amanda makes the claim that Olivia has had one. Olivia gives her a stare and walks away. I have many many many issues with this part. Olivia basically tells Amanda it’s okay to have an abortion, but warns there is a high cost of regret. This is very different from the Olivia of the past. At no point in the series 20 seasons, have they ever even hinted at Olivia having an abortion. Considering there were like 5 seasons she was trying to become a mother, this just tears her character apart.
Then there is the anti second amendment talk. I’m only going to give one important point to this anti second amendment part. How does my right to own a gun cause people to die? People will do evil things regardless of what tools they have. The gun debate is long and detailed, but that’s the biggest point that makes me support it. What better equalizer is there if someone larger than me attacks me?
Sorry if my rant today is more about venting than philosophy. But I felt this stuff was important to get out. I’ve been an avid consumer of the Law and Order shows, and this really disappointed me with the way it was handled.
